Our 16th Century Inn is the oldest Inn in Hertfordshire and is famous for it’s warm welcome and delicious home-made food.

The site of The Hand & Crown was popular with King Henry VIII and his then wife, Anne Boleyn.  They were both avid falconists.
Our logo represents the hand “Gauntlet” and Crown “Falcon Hood”.

Our delicious seasonal Roasts are served from 12 till 6pm with Mandy’s awesome Yorkshire Puddings.  Served as a Special, our Roasts change each week.

Saturday ‘Lighter Bites’

From Saturday the 12th May, and every Saturday thereafter, we are offering our Saturday ‘Lighter Bites’menu between 3 and 6pm.  Join us for delicious Baguettes, Scampi, Salads and Ploughmans.  (Full menu not available).  Please book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Our Home Cooked Food

We pride ourselves on our delicious and freshly cooked home-made food.  Our meat and fish is sourced daily to the delight of our clientele, fish from Billingsgate and our meat selection direct from Smithfield.  Our team is waiting to welcome you to The Hand & Crown.  Booking highly recommended.

I popped in here for a quick lunch on a Thursday and was surprised how busy it was. It soon became evident why it was so busy – the food was excellent, very reasonably priced and the staff were so welcoming. You will not leave here hungry. The food was fresh and delicious. The specials were fish heavy which is a real treat for all fish lovers – we had the sea bass which was amazing. Definitely worth a visit.
